NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

NOTICE IS HEREBY given that a Public Hearing will be held by the Village Board of the Village of Haverstraw, 40 New Main Street, Haverstraw, New York 10927 on Monday, July 17th commencing at 7:05 P.M. The public hearing is concerning amendments to # 43-1 of the Village Code concerning residency of certain appointed Village officials.                                                                                                                                                                                                      

The Village Board will hear at said time and place all persons in support of this matter and any objections thereto.  Interested parties may appear in person, by agent, or by representative.  A copy of said proposed law is available at Village Hall or on our website.

VILLAGE OF HAVERSTRAW – PROPOSED LOCAL LAW #3 of 2023

This Local Law amends section 43-1 as follows:

§ 43-1 Village Clerk and Village Treasurer. 

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Haverstraw may appoint as Village Clerk or Village Treasurer any individual who is otherwise qualified to hold public office, provided that such person shall, at the time of his or her appointment and during his or her continuance in office, be a resident of the County of Rockland or adjoining counties, however preference will be given to candidates whom reside in the Village of Haverstraw, Town of Haverstraw or the Village of West Haverstraw. The Board of Trustees may also appoint as Deputy Village Clerk or Deputy Village Treasurer any individual who is otherwise qualified to hold public office, provided that such person shall, at the time of his or her appointment and during his or her continuance in office, be a resident of the County of Rockland. This section is enacted pursuant to the authority contained in § 3-300, Subdivision 2, of the Village Law of the State of New York, which permits the Village Board to expand residency requirements for individuals appointed to Village office.
