Counseling Services

Program Details

There are different forms of counseling done at the Haverstraw Center through the Reachout program: individual, family and group counseling, and the Teen Intervene program.

Individual/Family Counseling – Consists of individual counseling done with participants from the ages of 8 years old to 20 years old, and/or family counseling with their loved ones. Appointments may be made by either dropping into the Center or by calling us at (845) 429-5731. An initial assessment will be done by a trained counselor, to gain the information to ascertain whether the person is appropriate for prevention counseling services. If they are not appropriate for our services every effort is made to make a proper referral for services that are needed.

Teen Intervene – is an evidence-based program for teenagers (12 to 19 years old) suspected of experiencing mild or moderate problems associated with alcohol or other drug use; the program can also include their parents or guardians. The Teen Intervene program integrates stages of change theory, motivational interviewing, and cognitive-behavioral therapy, to help young people make healthy decisions regarding substance use. Referrals from Teen Intervene may include prevention counseling, or, if the person is affected by a substance use disorder, to an appropriate treatment facility.
