Geneva (Liz) Welch
Born into a family that has been singing gospel music for a hundred years throughout the tri-state area, Liz is the eldest daughter of gospel legend Geneva Powell. Liz continues her family legacy and electrifies her audience with her powerful voice and all who hear her are uplifted and blessed.
Being an ardent bowler, in September of 1971, Liz became the 1st African American woman in New York State and the “country” to bowl a perfect 300 game. Today, Liz continues to bowl, and still out-bowls her opponents at every opportunity that arises.
Liz is an active member of the Haverstraw African American Connection Seniors. She exerts tremendous energy, and is always eager to participate, you will find her at every event doing something, be it: acting, singing, dancing, marching in parades, storytelling her history on the bowling lanes, feeding the homeless, or setting up tables. She is always present and continuously wearing a smile.
Geneva will be honored at Haverstraw Village Hall on Tuesday, February 22nd at 7:00pm
